Al Moussilia Association for Gharnati music was founded in 1985 by group of dedicated young Andalousian and Gharnati musicians. Since its creation, its mission has been the preservation of the beautiful heritage of gharnati music by promoting this kind of music among young musicians, singers and researchers in order to transmit it to future generations.

The Moussilia id formed of two schools; the first is dedicated to the teaching of the Gharnati music to young kids aged between 7 and 15. They attend courses given by eminent and competent teachers whose experience and knowledge of music has been recognised throughout Morocco . The second school is for the adults whose mission is to represent the Gharnati music in all cultural and artistic events locally, nationally and in the world. It is composed of 20 musicians conducted by the maestro Ahmed Tantaoui.   The Al Moussilia has taken part in several events and festivals in Morocco and in the world: Greece , Holland , Spain , Portugal , Syria , Jordan , Algeria and England . It was awarded the second prize among 18 participating bands in Liverpool festival in 2003.

Al Moussilia also edited an audio album in partnership with the Angad AL Maghreb Charki Association in Oujda . It recorded a Gharnati nouba for the Moroccan Ministry of Culture within a scope of an anthology of the Gharnati music.

Recently, Al Moussilia participated in the making of a new nouba called “bridge on the sea” with the French musician Michel Montanaro and performed in many French cities in the south of France during the summer on 2005.
