Al Moussilia
Association for Gharnati music was founded in 1985 by group of dedicated
young Andalousian and Gharnati musicians. Since its creation, its mission
has been the preservation of the beautiful heritage of gharnati music by
promoting this kind of music among young musicians, singers and
researchers in order to transmit it to future generations.
The Moussilia id
formed of two schools; the first is dedicated to the teaching of the
Gharnati music to young kids aged between 7 and 15. They attend courses
given by eminent and competent teachers whose experience and knowledge of
music has been recognised throughout
Morocco
. The second school is for the adults whose mission is to represent the
Gharnati music in all cultural and artistic events locally, nationally and
in the world. It is composed of 20 musicians conducted by the maestro
Ahmed Tantaoui. The Al
Moussilia has taken part in several events and festivals in
Morocco
and in the world:
Greece
,
Holland
,
Spain
,
Portugal
,
Syria
,
Jordan
,
Algeria
and
England
. It was awarded the second prize among 18 participating bands in
Liverpool
festival in 2003.
Al Moussilia also
edited an audio album in partnership with the Angad AL Maghreb Charki
Association in
Oujda
. It recorded a Gharnati nouba for the Moroccan Ministry of Culture within
a scope of an anthology of the Gharnati music.
Recently, Al
Moussilia participated in the making of a new nouba called “bridge on
the sea” with the French musician Michel Montanaro and performed in many
French cities in the south of France during the summer on 2005.
